Ancient Cacophonies

THE powers-that-be have been trying to universalise and standardise things for a very long time, particularly in the sphere of music. However, whilst we denizens of the twenty-first century have to put up with nonsensical generalisations such as 'World Folk' and 'Worldbeat', it may surprise one or two of you to learn that even some of the great Neoplatonist thinkers like Plotinus were cruelly subjected to discordant rubbish like 'World Soul' as early as the Third Century CE. Not to mention the torturous strains of so-called 'Nous Metal'.
