Transhumanism, or Transcendence?
CONTRARY to what the architects of modernity would have us believe, people only become truly human when they aspire to transcendent ideals. The Ancient Greeks certainly thought so. This being the case, it tears the illusory veil from the conceited ugly sister that is Transhumanism and exposes it for what it really is. Humanity is not ‘transcended’ through science and technology, in the majority of cases it hasn't even been accomplished. Not in any tangible sense. Rather similar, I would contend, to applying a coat of shiny gloss to a steaming pile of excrement and calling it a work of art.
I would even speculate that Transhumanism is a form of misanthropy in the sense that its advocates secretly loathe what is mistakenly identified as the ‘human’ condition. This is why we hear so much talk about the supposedly irredeemable character of ‘human’ nature. In reality, the corrosive spirit that drives most people - particularly those who form part of the modern herd - lies far beneath the principle of authentic humanity. The superior human being is not someone who has outgrown or overcome humanity, but a shining fulfilment of anthropoidal potential. The ‘new’ men and women of the future will not be semi-robots, comparing bionic limbs like hospital scars and naval tattoos, but individuals who have rediscovered what it means to be human.
